Nick, Cath and Katie Get into an Ever So Exciting Scrape!

Crumbs! Just when some people were thinking that Book Club was dashed boring, Nick, Katie and Cath jolly well proved them wrong by getting into an ever so exciting scrape with a wicked villain! Here's Nick's version of the story:

Did Cath or Katie fill everyone in on what happen to us on the way home from the pub after the last book club? Well if they did - too bad here is my version of events...

We were crossing at a set of lights when we heard a car window being smashed ... looked up to see a lithe young man with a long sleeved hooded top running away from the side of a car - then a very distressed 50 something year old woman getting out of the car.... apparently the bloke had smashed the passenger window and snatched her hand bag.

Traffic was halted because she got out of the car walking around in shock - so we had a meeting which went something like this "we better go over and help", the two girls leap into action - Cath on the phone to the Police giving details of where we were and what happened and Katie comforting the lady- we asked her a couple times if she wanted us to call anyone which she said no to.

A bloke in a cab a few cars back came forward and said I'll drive the car (nice BMW) around the corner for you (NOBODY ELSE STOPPED TO LEND A HAND) ... I thought what a nice bloke - turns out he just wanted the car out of the way- after getting around the corner he jumped in the taxi and left the Lady's car with keys in the ignition - motor running.

Anyway it turns out the Lady was from Bellevue Hill and she had $300 in Cash in the handbag as well as diamond earrings - had to bite my tongue - who drives around with diamond earrings in there handbag - I certainly don't. So the cops showed up 20mins later and said this was a very common occurrence at that intersection ... first lesson is don't put your handbag on the seat ... second lesson don't park your car on the side of the pub if we have book club there ... third lesson this proves going to book club does not make me a pansy as some at the fire brigade have suggested (actually when I told them the boys to girls ratio they stopped calling a pansy and asked if they could come too)

Anyway that’s how I saw it - the Lady was so Bellevue Hill - as Cath said later - her shock was so raw but still so measured.

Golly! And just when things couldn't get any more exciting, Katie added:

Hey I bumped into the American/Canadian copper near the Kings X fountain dealing with some nutter smashing his fists against a wooden pole ... ice ... He said hi (the copper not the nutter) ... I wanted to ask whether the South African sounding lady from Bellevue Hill had submitted to the King X police a well-deserved reward for any of the three good samaritans who came to her rescue, but the nutter was too aggressive to justify a close conversation ...

Stay tuned for more of the exciting adventures of Book Club, in which our crew of well-read chums thwarts a band of smugglers, recovers a stolen painting and foils a plot by swarthy gypsies to steal some lovely ponies. And then they get pissed.
